La prima cosa da sapere e che non dice nessuno e' che il forno non e' a legna... Devo dire che cominciamo molto male. Fortunatamente la qualita' della pizza, il condimento abbondante e la bonta' degli ingredienti fanno si che ci si possa dimenticare che non e' cotta come si dovrebbe... In ogni caso una pizza che si mangia molto volentieri e soprattutto che sazia. Antipasti e piatti di pasta ispirano e tentano. Problemi: - il tipo che prepara le pizze sbaglia facilmente gli ingredienti e nessuno si scusa o ti rifa' la pizza (molto italiano, appreziamo l'italianita')... - il conto e' fatto a mano, sbagliato e il tipo pensa di averti offerto delle grappe che in realta' ha offerto a quelli del tavolo a fianco... Ci tornero'? Probabilmente, ma non subito... Pro: Very high quality pizza Cons: No wood stove (ahi! but the pizza is still very good), they give us pizza with wrong ingredients and they made some mistakes on the bill... |

English Tourist: "Pardon Monsieur...where can I find the "best pizza in town"? Me: "Certainly at "Don Leone's", my friend." English Tourist: "Oh, thank you." Yes, here we are. After 15 years in Zurich, I finally found the "best pizza in town": Don Leone. Perfect food quality, nice ambiente (Massimo, the waiter, is exceptional) and a great choice on the menu card. The place is really small, but offers a very familiar atmosphere. After the coffee it is worth to taste one among the 32 grappas: it helps digesting. The bill (always written by hand on a piece of paper ;-) ) could bring some surprises...but the quality of the food and the Lemoncello usually offered at the end of the meal will help forgetting the expensive bill quite soon... |

War gestern zum ersten mal im don leone und es hat mir sehr gefallen. Gestern hatten sie aber Probleme mit dem fehlenden Pizzaiolo und so kamen die Pizza sehr spät und auch leicht verbrannt! Aber der Geschmack ist Super, die Auswahl sehr originell, die Atmosphäre sehr angenehm und locker. Muss ich unbedingt bald wieder probieren. | ||||||||||||||

Sono tornato ieri al Don Leone e la pizza rimane sempre la migliore mai provata a Zurigo, anche secondo le altre 5 persone insieme a me. La cosa che potrebbe migliorare è il servizio. Avevo chiamato qualche giorno prima ad ora di pranzo e la prenotazione si è persa. Mi sa che durante le ore dei pasti sono troppo indaffarati: meglio chiamare in orari piu' tranquilli. Siamo arrivati intorno alle 19:05, l'ordine è stato preso alle 19:10 e le pizze sono arrivate intorno alle 19:50 ed eravamo affamati. Il problema è che con il locale pieno il personale è veramente di corsa, nonostante questo la qualità della pizza rimane ottima. Insomma, prenotate in orari tranquilli, andateci senza aver fretta visto che la pizza, il locale, la scelta dei vini e delle grappe vale la pena. | ||||||||||||||

Am vergangenen Donnerstag waren wir unterwegs und hatten mal keine Lust auf ein Fussballspiel, so sind wir spontan bei Don Leone gelandet. Was soll ich noch dazu sagen: Eine exzellente Pizza, eine gute Grappa, und die übliche, hervorragende Bedienung. | ||||||||||||||

I only have one word for this place: FANTASTIC! The interior, the atmosphere, the PIZZA! We had the Pizza Regina and the marvelous Gran Ducato, a dream :). If there is one downside, the (female) service is not necessary enthusiastic. Appearance is only one of the qualities that make a good waitress. Then again... they have a tough job, as it's packed and pretty tight in there... |

Nice restaurant (all the tables are different), great choice of wine and grappa, service is OK and the pizza is the best I had so far in Switzerland. The mozzarella di bufala was good. | ||||||||||||||

My half-satisfaction is probably due to the fact that on the day we went, the pizzaiolo was a brand new guy, starting that very day, as a "trial day". That's what Franco apologized and explained why the Steinpilze was missing on the pizza I ordered. That's also probably why both pizzas we ordered were too cooked, almost burned. However, the unburnt part of the pizza revealed a good base. One can imagine the real quality of the pizza when it's correctly baked. Everybody's got to learn sometimes... 2 nice things: convenient for a kino-evening at Metropol; and the wine list is impressive. I shall give another try. |

Tolles Restaurant!!!! Sehr Gastfreundlich, Karte gute Auswahl und vorallem hervorragende Weine zu geniessen! Preise sind angemessen, kompliment am ganze Team!!! |

In Don Leone sind sehr nette Angestellte, also Bedienungen, die sehr freundlich sind und zuvorkommend. Die Küche ist ausgezeichnet, also egal ob sie Pizza, Pasta oder Fleisch oder einfach nur was trinken wollen. Die Preise sind gut... Nicht zu teuer, aber auch nicht zu billig: eine sehr gute pizzeria! | ||||||||||||||

Wir waren heute das erste Mal im Don Leone und werden sicherlich nicht das letzte Mal dagewesen sein. Der Tipp, vorher zu reservieren, war sehr gut, denn es war den ganzen Abend über sehr voll. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich, und obwohl so viel los war, war die Wartezeit auf die Pizzen in Ordnung. Das Essen war mit frischen Zutaten zubereitet und sehr lecker. Das hausgemachte Tiramisu ist auch sehr zu empfehlen. Die Preise sind angemessen. |

Don Leone is the right place to have a good time. Placed in a small side road near Stauffacher, Don Leone’s location is just perfect for nearly every occasion, since a five minutes walk can take you to the trendy bars in the downtown as well as in the Langstrasse or even to the Metropol movie theatre which sits just in front. There’s not much room inside and no tables outside, but the windows along two edges can be slid away in summer thus virtually offering an outdoor place. You sit on a heavy, padded chair with a solid, dark wooden table in front of you, no tablecloth, and minimalist, carefully disposed cover. The food is very good. If Massimo (my favourite waiter) is around then you could just focus on choosing your main dish and let him suggest a passing wine, organize a gorgeous appetizer and bring some special grappa at the end to help digest. But if instead of that you just want to eat a good pizza then pick up one from the generous list which should cover most requirements. Of course this is not the cheapest restaurant in Zurich but in my view it’s absolutely worth the difference. Also consider reserving with some advance if you want to be sure to get a table. |

Tolles Ambiente, nette Bedienungen, akzeptables preis-Leistungsverhältnis, man muss aber unbedingt reservieren wenn man keine überraschung will. Grosse Auswahl aus Pizzas: die schmecken hervorragend, wirklich zu empfehlen! |

The nicer, more elegant, better located brother of Franco's Pizza Kurier! Same staff (or at least Franco is there), same pizzas, nicer place, better location. Here you can bring your date. The place is dark and with orange walls. Tables are small, ideal for not-so-big groups. But if you want to be sure to get a place please reserve before: I may be wrong but the small restaurant offers place for about 20 people in total. Perfect when going or planning to go, before or after, to the Metropol Cinema. A drawback? Sometime it can take quite long to get your pizza, plan to be there in advance if you have a movie starting anytime soon... |
